New Chicago clinic offers abortions up to 34 weeks of pregnancy

A newly opened abortion facility in Chicago is now providing so-called “all-trimester” abortions, reportedly up to 34 weeks. Hope Clinic, already known for abortions into the late second trimester at its Illinois location, has expanded into the city’s Uptown neighborhood and is promoting access to abortion far beyond what most Americans support.

Clinic leadership says the procedures will comply with Illinois law, which permits abortion after viability if the patient’s “life or health” (including mental health) is at risk. But critics warn that the law’s vague language leaves the door open to elective late-term abortions with few real limits. This clinic is part of a growing trend of abortion destinations in liberal states like Illinois, as efforts intensify to make states like it a national hub for abortion-on-demand, even in the third trimester.

Third-trimester abortions remain deeply controversial: according to Gallup, fewer than 23% of Americans support legal abortion at this stage of pregnancy.
