Massachusetts Citizens for Life has launched a statewide campaign to identify where Massachusetts legislators and candidates stand following the state’s expansion of abortion later in pregnancy.

The “Hold Them Accountable for Abortion Up to Birth” campaign asks Massachusetts residents to contact their legislators and candidates about two issues: restoring legal protections for viable unborn babies and ensuring state funding for abortion alternatives that provide vulnerable women with additional options.

Participation has already been strong, with MCFL supporters and other Massachusetts residents contacting their elected officials.

“Given that every legislator on Beacon Hill is up for reelection, we want to hold them accountable,” said MCFL President Myrna Maloney Flynn. “Our initiative allows any Massachusetts resident to demand more from those they elect.”

The campaign follows Gov. Maura Healey’s signing of legislation removing Massachusetts’ previous 24-week abortion limit. MCFL is also seeking greater transparency regarding the legislation’s final Senate passage, which occurred without an individual roll-call record.

The campaign will extend beyond the November election. The responses collected will create a record showing where legislators and candidates stand on protecting viable unborn babies and expanding alternatives to abortion for vulnerable women.

That record will help MCFL and its supporters identify where support exists and where additional advocacy is needed in future legislative efforts.

MCFL is asking supporters to help expand the effort by sharing the campaign with friends, family and other Massachusetts residents.
