White House proclaims National Foster Care Month for May 2026

The White House has proclaimed May 2026 as National Foster Care Month, recognizing foster families, caregivers, and professionals who support children in the foster care system across the United States.

The proclamation highlights the role of foster families in providing stability and care for children in need, as well as the contributions of social workers, educators, clergy, and volunteers involved in the system. It also references federal initiatives aimed at strengthening foster care services and supporting young people transitioning out of foster care.

In Massachusetts, foster care and adoption resources are available to individuals and families interested in providing stable homes for children in need. Approximately 8,500 children are currently in the state foster care system, and guidance is available on pathways to becoming a foster or adoptive parent.
