We'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne. -Robert Burns
What a day it’s been. In freezing rain this morning, I left my house to battle holiday-sized crowds at the grocery store. Standing in line at the RMV sounded more appealing. As I rolled my cart into the store, I ran into someone who’s an outspoken abortion rights supporter. “Fabulous,” I thought.
A few minutes later, I turned into the frozen foods aisle only to meet yet another woman who not only considers herself “pro-choice” but who has built a career around it.
“Really?” I shook my head. “This is how 2019 is going to end: feeling outnumbered after what has otherwise been a pretty darn awesome year for the pro-life movement?”
Then, like a heaven-sent sign, a series of events unfolded that, I am certain, has teed up one heck of a 2020.
I passed a “Choose Life” license plate on my way out of the parking lot. (Those are rare out here in Hampshire County.) Got home and received an email from a local family who, despite doctors’ advice to end their pregnancy, spent Christmas watching their infant daughter, Hope, thrive. Then I got a call from a well-known state ally, looking ahead to the new year, eager to partner with MCFL as we continue our fight against the ROE Act.
I was barely keeping up with the shower of graces. Then I got the text about our supporters -- partners in our movement whose generosity had just propelled us well beyond our six-day, $10,000, end-of-year challenge.
Thank you! Those two words seem insufficient for all you have done for life this year. Because of you, we can look back on 2019 as the year when life took a turn; when hope thrived. And it is because of you and your support that 2020 will be the year when life WINS.
I wish you the very best as you bid 2019 farewell, as you drink a cup of kindness that is so well-deserved.
Much peace to you, and a blessed and happy New Year!
With deepest appreciation,
Myrna
