Venezuela earthquakes: State Department issues guidance on supporting relief

The U.S. Department of State has issued guidance outlining how Americans can support ongoing humanitarian relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

According to official figures cited in reporting, the disaster has resulted in thousands of deaths, with widespread destruction, mass displacement, and continued uncertainty as search-and-rescue operations remain active in affected regions.

Despite the scale of the tragedy, rescue teams and local volunteers continue to report survival stories, including children pulled alive from collapsed structures and survivors located days after the initial quakes. In some cases, accounts from affected areas have highlighted moments of resilience, including a pregnant woman giving birth amid rubble as emergency responders worked through damaged and unstable conditions.

As immediate rescue efforts continue in the most affected zones, authorities and humanitarian organizations are increasingly transitioning toward longer-term recovery needs. These include support for displaced families, orphaned children, pregnant women, and residents who have lost homes, infrastructure, and access to essential services such as food, clean water, and medical care.

The State Department guidance emphasizes coordinated assistance through verified humanitarian organizations including Catholic Relief Services, Samaritan's Purse, and World Vision, as relief efforts expand from emergency response to sustained recovery and rebuilding.
