New government statistics reveal that an estimated 299,614 lives were lost to abortion across the United Kingdom in 2023, the highest number ever recorded.
In England and Wales alone, 278,740 abortions took place, a 10.56% increase from the previous year. When combined with record figures from Scotland and Northern Ireland, the total marks a grim milestone.
The data also show troubling trends beneath the headline figure. Repeat abortions rose by more than 14,000, meaning over 42% of abortions in England and Wales were repeat procedures. There were 3,205 disability-selective abortions, including 300 late-term abortions at 24 weeks and over for babies diagnosed with disabilities. 735 babies with Down’s syndrome were aborted in 2023.
