Trump administration moves to delay court review of abortion pill regulations

The Food and Drug Administration under the Trump administration has requested a federal court to stay a Louisiana-led lawsuit challenging the safety rules for the abortion pill mifepristone.

The suit, filed by Alliance Defending Freedom on behalf of Louisiana, seeks to restore the in-person dispensing requirement removed by 2023 safety regulations, citing serious health risks from mail-order and pharmacy distribution.

The FDA argued the court should defer judicial review while the agency completes its own study of mifepristone, warning that moving forward now could disrupt its ongoing review and create conflicting court rulings.
