Study: FDA lacked evidence to remove in-person mifepristone requirement

A new peer-reviewed article by Charlotte Lozier Institute scholars argues that the FDA lacked sufficient evidence to remove the in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone in 2021.

Published in Issues in Law and Medicine on October 6, the analysis questions whether the studies cited by the FDA adequately reflected real-world use of abortion-inducing drugs. It also raises concerns about limited adverse-event reporting and how the FDA evaluated outside stakeholder input.

Co-author Dr. Ingrid Skop, a board-certified OB-GYN, argues that safety decisions should reflect the conditions under which women actually use these drugs.
