Alina Thopurathu, a practicing Catholic and standout physician assistant candidate, has filed suit against Springfield College, alleging wrongful dismissal from the master’s program after she objected to observing a second-trimester abortion during a clinical rotation.
The lawsuit, filed July 11 in Hampden Superior Court, claims the college retaliated after Thopurathu submitted feedback expressing discomfort with being assigned to a dilation and evacuation procedure without prior warning. Despite strong academic performance, she was dismissed two months after her anticipated 2023 graduation.
Thopurathu seeks $500,000 in damages, citing breach of contract and religious discrimination.
