Three Republican senators, Steve Daines of Montana, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, and Jim Banks of Indiana, are urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate whether chemical abortion manufacturers misrepresented the safety and efficacy of Mifepristone.
The request follows a study from the Ethics and Public Policy Center showing that women taking mifepristone experience serious adverse events at rates 22 times higher than those reported on the FDA-approved label. The senators emphasized that this is a women’s health and safety issue, not a political debate, and called for a federal investigation into potential criminal and civil misconduct.
They also questioned the FDA’s 2016 and 2023 decisions to loosen safety regulations and highlighted the lack of mandatory reporting for abortion pill injuries, arguing that women and families are entitled to full disclosure of the risks.
