A Spanish court has acquitted 21 pro-life activists who were arrested in 2022 for praying outside the Askabide abortion clinic in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The activists, participating in a 40 Days for Life vigil, quietly held signs reading “You are not alone” and “We are praying for you.”
Judge Beatriz Román ruled that their actions constituted legitimate free assembly and did not intimidate or harass women. The ruling affirmed that the demonstrators acted in a peaceful, prayerful manner, despite being near the clinic.
This decision represents a landmark victory for Spanish pro-lifers, particularly after changes to the Spanish Penal Code in 2022 aimed at criminalizing interference with abortion access.
