Pro-life success story: MCFL-incubated Pregnancy Care Alliance soars

A special announcement from President Myrna Maloney Flynn.

In the spring of 2022, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D) vowed she would work to close Massachusetts's charitable pregnancy resource centers (PRCs). Before the national media, she promised to “shut them down.” Vandals were emboldened to damage PRC property and threaten their staff and clients.

While PRCs worked to keep their doors open and serve women in need, the attacks kept coming.

In the fall, the Massachusetts Citizens for Life Board of Directors unanimously voted to create and fund the state’s first-ever pregnancy resource center network, with the short-term goals of strengthening center services and increasing public awareness. Long term, MCFL hoped to steward the network’s financial independence.

Since 2023, the Pregnancy Care Alliance (PCAll), has evolved from a loose working group to a well-structured, tactical and effective affiliation of life-affirming nonprofits. As PCAll marked its second birthday, there were many achievements to celebrate.

Notably, as of this writing, every one of our state’s PRCs remains open, despite long odds of a modern day David and Goliath matchup.

What’s more, PCAll itself has rapidly matured, nurtured by Massachusetts Citizens for Life, fed by the combined expertise of statewide PRC leadership and financially sustained by our respective grassroots supporters.

The positive response to the MCFL-initiated PRC network has been far beyond what anyone anticipated. Similarly, we are pleased to report that PCAll’s independence has arrived sooner as well. We are thrilled to announce that, as of October 1, the Pregnancy Care Alliance has become strong enough to exist apart from MCFL and is now its own separate entity.

For those who have supported PCAll, please know that you played a significant part in its growth. Because of the generosity of every donor, this historic undertaking is well positioned to continue serving women and families, and also defend against attempts to undermine that work, including state-sponsored efforts like the one we saw in 2024. As for Massachusetts Citizens for Life, we will continue to play an advisory role alongside our PCAll colleagues and aim to bolster the work of every Massachusetts pregnancy resource center. Additionally, there is still much to be done when it comes to educating our neighbors across the state about what PRCs do and why they are so critical in the pro-life movement. This education begins today, as we prepare for our PRC protection bill, which we filed with bipartisan support, to be heard October 21st on Beacon Hill. Please submit written testimony or, better yet, plan to testify. You’ll see details about both in the coming days.
