Pro-life groups urge FDA nominee to restore mifepristone safeguards

A coalition of pro-life organizations and leaders is calling on FDA Commissioner nominee Dr. Heidi Overton to restore safeguards governing mifepristone that were in place before the Biden administration.

In a joint statement, the groups are asking Overton to restore the previous in-person dispensing requirement while the FDA continues its review of mifepristone. They also are calling for further examination of reported adverse events and concerns about abortion drugs being distributed through the mail.

The coalition is asking Overton to address several questions during her confirmation process, including how the FDA will evaluate mifepristone’s safety and how it will address the interstate distribution of the drug.
