Pro-life coalition calls for continued federal defunding of abortion providers

Dozens of pro-life organizations are urging Congress to extend and strengthen restrictions on federal funding for abortion providers through the upcoming 2026 budget process.

A coalition led by Live Action sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and other senators calling for continued defunding of major abortion businesses, including Planned Parenthood, following a 2025 budget provision that temporarily blocked federal Medicaid funding for such organizations.

The group is pushing for permanent or extended restrictions, arguing that taxpayer funds should not support abortion-related services. The current funding limitation is set to expire in July 2026 unless Congress acts.

The letter also cites concerns about additional services offered by some organizations, including gender-related medical interventions and school-based sex education programs, and urges lawmakers to maintain and expand existing federal funding restrictions.
