Planned Parenthood drops lawsuit challenging One Big Beautiful Bill provision

Planned Parenthood has voluntarily dismissed its lawsuit challenging a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill that barred Medicaid funding for abortion providers for one year.

The suit, filed in July 2025, was dismissed following court rulings that upheld the law and reinforced the federal government’s authority to ensure taxpayer dollars do not subsidize abortion.

Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee, called the development a clear victory for the protection of life. She emphasized that public funds should support genuine health care services and never be used to subsidize organizations whose core mission ends innocent human life.

“Planned Parenthood’s decision to withdraw this lawsuit underscores the strength of the legal and moral case for ending federal Medicaid funding of abortion providers,” said Tobias. “Taxpayer dollars should not be used to support organizations whose core mission includes ending innocent human life.”

The law, signed July 4, 2025, prohibits Medicaid reimbursements to providers whose principal activities include elective abortion, a policy upheld by the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
