The Trump administration has withheld tens of millions in federal Title X funding from nine Planned Parenthood affiliates and other providers, citing potential violations of federal law and executive orders. These funds were previously allocated to clinics that provide contraception, STI testing, and other health services to low-income patients.
This action follows previous steps taken during Trump’s first administration, including rules that prohibited Title X providers from referring patients for abortions or discussing abortion as an option. The administration also required clinics to set up separate facilities for abortion procedures and other services, and amended Title X rules to allow funding for faith-based centers that do not offer contraceptives or hormonal birth control.
Officials indicated that Planned Parenthood’s political activities and policies, including its involvement with individuals lacking legal status, were incompatible with federal funding requirements. The organization has been given 10 days to demonstrate compliance, with legal challenges anticipated, according to an exclusive report by Politico.
