Oklahoma governor defunds abortion industry through new executive order

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has signed an executive order directing all state agencies to cut off public funding to individuals and organizations that perform or are affiliated with abortions.

“Oklahoma is a pro-life state,” Stitt said. “And if you’re tied to the abortion industry, you won’t get a dime of taxpayer funding here.”

The order instructs the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to review and revise its SoonerCare provider standards to ensure full alignment with the state’s pro-life values. Providers must now disclose any abortion-related activities and may be excluded from participation if found in violation.

Stitt’s move follows a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling affirming states’ rights to decide which providers may participate in Medicaid. “We won’t allow tax dollars to indirectly subsidize and flow into the abortion industry under the guise of women’s health,” he added.
