The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit ruled that two nonprofit pro-life pregnancy centers in New York and their affiliated network are free to inform women about abortion pill reversal using progesterone while their lawsuit continues.
The ruling comes after New York Attorney General Letitia James sued pregnancy centers in 2024, attempting to block them from sharing information on this potentially life-saving treatment. Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing the centers argued that women should have access to accurate information about safe and effective options if they regret taking the first abortion pill.
“Women in New York have the right to access information about safe and effective supplemental progesterone through their local pregnancy centers,” said ADF Senior Counsel Caroline Lindsay. The court agreed, emphasizing that the centers’ speech is protected by the First Amendment and is noncommercial, religiously and morally motivated, and intended to save lives.
Progesterone is a naturally occurring hormone long used to sustain pregnancies, and studies suggest abortion pill reversal has saved over 7,000 unborn lives, with a success rate up to 64–68%.
