The new year began with hope as newborns in Tennessee and Texas were safely surrendered and are now receiving care, thanks to Baby Safe Havens.
In Atoka, Tennessee, a baby was safely placed over the first weekend of the year, marking the first use of the area’s Baby Box since its unveiling in November 2024. In Lubbock, Texas, a similar milestone occurred this week, with a healthy infant safely received at Fire Station No. 9.
Fire Chief Bill Scott of Atoka said, “This Safe Haven Baby Box exists for moments like this. Our firefighters responded exactly as trained, and because of this resource, a child is safe and receiving the care they need.” In Lubbock, Public Information Officer Derek Delgado added, “To the mother who made this decision, thank you. We do not know your story, we do not know your pain, but what we do know is your heart – because you chose love, you chose safety.”
Help spread the word about Safe Havens in Massachusetts
Across Massachusetts, parents in crisis still don’t know they have a safe, legal way to protect their newborn. The Baby Safe Haven Law offers that option, but only if people know it exists.
MCFL is equipping volunteers with free Safe Haven signs to display in hospitals, fire stations, police departments, and local gathering places. These signs raise awareness, offer hope, and may truly be the difference between life and loss.
