New report exposes flaws in assisted suicide oversight and data

Aging with Dignity has released a powerful new report exposing the risks and misconceptions surrounding physician-assisted suicide (PAS).

While often presented as a compassionate and regulated option, PAS laws across the country are riddled with vague language, legal loopholes, and almost no oversight. In practice, so-called safeguards fail to protect the vulnerable, psychiatric evaluations are rarely required, and even non-terminal patients have received lethal prescriptions.

The report also highlights serious flaws in how states collect and report PAS data, making it nearly impossible to track abuse or ensure patient safety. Rather than offering real dignity, PAS reflects a dangerous shift away from true end-of-life care.
