New Mexico fireman gives home to baby abandoned in safe haven box

A New Mexico fireman has adopted a little boy who was safely surrendered in a Safe Haven Baby Box at his station, reported Life News.

The infant, the first in Belen to be adopted through the program, was anonymously placed in the climate-controlled, monitored box designed to protect babies from abandonment and infanticide. Lt. Chris Martinez, who witnessed the surrender, said, “To have a baby be placed here in this box and to be able as a firefighter to be able to be his dad, it just means the world to us.”

Established by pro-life advocate Monica Kelsey, Safe Haven Baby Boxes allow parents to safely and legally surrender infants up to 90 days old. The successful adoption demonstrates the program’s effectiveness and highlights the life-saving potential of safe surrender initiatives for infants in crisis.
