Following Gov. Maura Healey’s signing of the law eliminating Massachusetts’ remaining statutory limits on abortion after 24 weeks, Massachusetts Citizens for Life President Myrna Maloney Flynn is urging residents to confront what the new law allows.

Flynn warned that the legislation goes beyond protecting the doctor-patient relationship by allowing elective abortions later in pregnancy, including when both the mother and unborn child are healthy.

“Legalizing elective abortion up to birth on healthy mothers and healthy, pain-capable unborn children is not about protecting the doctor-patient relationship,” Flynn said. “It is about abortionists normalizing the deaths of fully-developed infants and pressuring vulnerable women to permit their unborn children to die in heinous acts of violence.”

Flynn also urged people to learn more about late-term and dismemberment abortions, as well as alternatives available to women facing difficult pregnancies, including perinatal hospice and palliative care.

“When people learn the gruesome details about late-term abortion, if their conscience is well-formed, they will be compelled to oppose it,” Flynn said. She called on supporters to help educate legislators and voters, warning that “passive indifference to inhumane late-term abortion” means choosing complacency rather than advancing human rights.
