Walpole, MA – For the 16th consecutive year, Choose Life Massachusetts, Inc. will disperse grants to charitable organizations who serve women in crisis pregnancies. Pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes applied for financial awards directly through Choose Life, an affiliate of Massachusetts Citizens for Life Charitable Trust. The first round of grants issued in 2026 totals more than $21,000.
Funding originates from Massachusetts residents who purchase the Choose Life specialty license plate. Consumers pay $40 extra when obtaining an automobile registration through the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). The registry keeps $12 to cover the manufacturing cost of the plate, and Choose Life, Inc. receives $28. When a plate is renewed every two years, Choose Life receives the full $40.
“Since the Choose Life license plate was introduced in 2011, more than $1 million in grant money has been awarded to our pregnancy centers and maternity homes,” said Massachusetts Citizens for Life President Myrna Maloney Flynn, who also serves as acting president of Choose Life Massachusetts. “When you see drivers who have a Choose Life plate, know that their purchase supports women across Massachusetts who have received services, supplies and support they need during and after an unplanned pregnancy.”
“The Choose Life grant strengthens our ability to provide consistent, high-quality support to every client who seeks help,” said Darlene Howard, executive director of Attleboro’s Abundant Hope Pregnancy Resource Center. “It helps offset personnel costs, allowing us to maintain trained, experienced professionals who uphold high standards of care, continuity of services, and a safe, supportive environment for those we serve.”
In order to qualify, Choose Life grant recipients must be not-for-profit and not encourage or refer for abortion. Annual grants are issued to qualifying agencies in return for a promise to promote the Choose Life license plate with donors and clients. Choose Life offers four grant categories:
New Center Grant – $5,000 to qualifying centers that have recently opened, moved or performed major renovations.
Expense Grant – Varying amounts to support special onetime purchases for items related to promoting the cause of life.
Fundraising Grant – $1,000 to qualifying centers to assist in defraying the cost of fundraising events such as a Walk for Life or a Banquet.
Promotional Grant – $2,000 for qualifying centers agreeing to assist in promoting the Choose Life license plate through their website and newsletter.
