Majority of women report grief, guilt after abortion in national survey

A new national survey of American women aged 41–45 found that grief, guilt, and regret are more frequently reported after abortion than relief—especially among those who felt pressured or conflicted about their decision.

In contrast to earlier studies based on abortion clinic samples, this research used a randomized, blinded methodology to reduce bias and better reflect long-term emotional outcomes. The findings suggest a need for more transparent informed consent in abortion care.
