Legislative win: Parental consent changes removed from Massachusetts abortion bill

Massachusetts Citizens for Life is pleased to share an important legislative victory for parents and the pro-life movement in Massachusetts.

Following strong public engagement from pro-life advocates across the Commonwealth, a revised version of S.1244, An Act Enhancing Access to Abortion Care, has been released. The bill has been replaced by S.3125, An Act Enhancing Hospital Emergency Services.

The revised legislation no longer includes the proposed changes to Massachusetts' parental consent law for abortion. The amendments to Section 12F regarding abortion and sterilization have been removed, preserving existing parental consent protections for minors seeking abortion.

This is a significant win for pro-life Massachusetts and shows that respectful, informed citizen advocacy can make a real difference.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who submitted testimony, contacted legislators, shared our action alerts, and encouraged others to get involved. Your voices were heard, and your efforts helped protect an important safeguard for parents and their children.

Although we celebrate this encouraging development, our work is not finished. MCFL remains concerned about provisions included in S.3125. We will continue to oppose provisions that expand abortion in Massachusetts and will keep supporters informed as S.3125 moves through the legislative process.

Thank you for standing with Massachusetts Citizens for Life. Together, we have shown that when pro-life citizens raise their voices and engage with their elected officials, positive change is possible.
