A Canadian man euthanized under the country’s assisted suicide program recently became the first known case of a heart transplant following medical assistance in dying (MAiD).
The case, reported by researchers from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and The Ottawa Hospital, marks the first documented heart transplant following euthanasia under Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) law.
Since MAID was legalized in 2016, more than 150 people in Canada have donated organs after assisted deaths.
