Infant from 1985 Mansfield cold case identified, Attleboro woman charged

The infant from a 1985 Mansfield cold case has been identified through DNA testing, and an Attleboro woman has been charged in connection with the decades-old investigation.

Authorities say the newborn’s remains were discovered in a wooded area in Mansfield in 1985, where the case remained unsolved for more than 40 years. Investigators later used genetic genealogy to develop a DNA profile from the remains, leading to the identification of the child’s biological mother.

The identification was confirmed through additional DNA testing and traditional investigative work. The case was jointly investigated by FBI Boston, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and local police.
