The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has rescinded unclear guidance issued under the Biden administration that threatened pharmacies with federal funding for declining to stock or dispense abortion-inducing drugs.
The guidance, originally issued in 2022, partially changed after a court ruling in 2023 but still left pro-life pharmacies at risk.
Alliance Defending Freedom, representing Mayo Pharmacy and other religious pharmacies, praised the action, saying it fully protects pharmacists who decline to dispense abortion drugs against their conscience. “We are grateful to the Trump administration for eliminating the remnants of this Biden-era abortion mandate,” said Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Matt Bowman.
