Help expose assisted suicide discrimination

The Patients Rights Action Fund is asking people with disabilities who have experienced discrimination, coercion, or being steered toward assisted suicide to document their experiences through civil rights complaints.

The campaign encourages individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination involving a health care provider, public agency, insurer, or other covered entity to file complaints with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights and the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.

According to the campaign, complaints should identify the entity involved, describe the specific conduct, and include when the alleged discrimination occurred. HHS says civil rights complaints generally must be filed within 180 days of the alleged discrimination, although extensions may be available for good cause.

The Patients Rights Action Fund says the complaints can help federal officials hear directly from people affected by assisted suicide laws and create a record of reported experiences.
