Wendy Duffy, 56, a mother from the United Kingdom’s West Midlands, is scheduled to travel to Switzerland to undergo assisted suicide at a clinic operated by Pegasos Swiss Association, following years of grief after the death of her son.
Duffy, a former care worker, reportedly paid about $12,500 for the procedure. Her son, Marcus, died at age 23 after a choking incident that left him without oxygen to the brain.
She previously attempted suicide after his death and was left in critical condition. Duffy says she continues to struggle with her loss despite being physically healthy.
The case comes amid broader international debate over assisted dying laws and eligibility standards, including in the United Kingdom, where the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill has faced delays in Parliament.
