Georgia Life Alliance rejects media narrative in newborn death investigation

Georgia Life Alliance issued a statement on March 20 disputing media reports that linked charges in a Camden County newborn death case to Georgia LIFE Act.

The organization stated that the defendant, identified in reports as Alexia Moore, is not being charged under the LIFE Act. Instead, the case involves allegations tied to the death of a newborn who authorities say was born alive. According to the statement, the death is being investigated under existing Georgia law, including statutes related to felony conduct.

Citing details from the arrest warrant, the group said the newborn died after experiencing respiratory distress, allegedly linked to oxycodone taken prior to birth. Under Georgia law, a death occurring during the commission of a felony can result in a murder charge.

In the statement, Executive Director Elizabeth Edmonds said characterizing the case as a result of pro-life legislation is inaccurate and misleading. She emphasized that Georgia law does not criminalize miscarriage or pregnancy outcomes and said the case is being prosecuted under longstanding legal standards.

The organization also raised concerns about the risks associated with illegally obtained abortion drugs distributed outside the medical system. Georgia Life Alliance described the incident as a tragic death and said it remains focused on policies supporting both women and children.
