
A baby girl born weighing just 1 lb., 1 oz. has been discharged from Reston Hospital Center in Virginia after spending 172 days in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Born at 23 weeks on Oct. 26, 2025, while her mother was visiting the United States from Ghana, the infant faced a prolonged medical journey that included complications such as pneumonia and respiratory support during her stay.
After nearly six months of intensive neonatal care, the baby was discharged in stable condition and transitioned home with her family.
Hospital staff described her outcome as a “real miracle,” noting the significant challenges associated with survival at 23 weeks' gestation and the intensive support required throughout her care.
