Florida abortion rate drops 40 percent six months after heartbeat law

New data from Florida’s Agency for Healthcare Administration shows abortions have dropped dramatically, from 36,221 to 21,572 compared to the same period in 2024, a 40.4% decline.

This sharp decrease follows the enforcement of Florida’s Heartbeat Bill, which bans abortions after six weeks with limited exceptions, and took effect on May 1, 2024, after a state Supreme Court ruling.

The number of out-of-state women seeking abortions in Florida also fell significantly, from 2,928 to 744, signaling that Florida is no longer an abortion destination for many from surrounding states.

This decline in abortion numbers highlights the impact of strong pro-life legislation.
