The federal government has reached a settlement of more than $1 million with father of seven and pro-life activist Mark Houck following litigation tied to a FACE Act-related case.
Houck, a Pennsylvania resident, was arrested in 2022 by federal agents following an incident at a Planned Parenthood facility in 2021. He was later charged under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and was acquitted by a jury in January 2023.
In September 2022, approximately 20 FBI agents executed an early-morning raid on the Houck family’s home in rural eastern Pennsylvania, arresting Houck in front of his wife and children. The family later filed a civil lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI, alleging emotional distress, economic loss, and harm to their children.
The underlying case stemmed from a 2021 confrontation during a pro-life prayer presence at a Planned Parenthood facility, involving an altercation in which Houck intervened during an incident involving his son and a clinic volunteer.
Following his acquittal, the Houcks pursued civil claims that resulted in the settlement announced in April 2026.
Pro-life advocates and affiliated organizations described the outcome as a significant victory. 40 Days for Life President Shawn Carney called it a “huge legal victory for free speech,” while Thomas More Society leadership said the case highlighted concerns about federal enforcement actions.
