Position: Director of Development

The Director of Development works in collaboration with the President & CEO and the organization’s development consultant to plan, implement, and manage Massachusetts Citizens for Life’s fundraising program. She/He is responsible for developing strategy and raising funds for programming and general operating expenses through 1) MCFL’s donor base, 2) corporate donations, 3) private foundations, and 4) grants.
The Director of Development will provide overall leadership for development efforts that benefit Massachusetts Citizens for Life, with a special emphasis on growing the organization’s donor base and securing individual major gifts, to ensure achievement of annual and multi-year fundraising goals and objectives, according to priorities set by the President and board of directors.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
- Serve as chief storyteller for our organization, communicating to our supporters about the work they are doing through us.
- Provide oversight and coordination of MCFL fundraising activities, including prospect management, proposal development, and review of fund agreements to ensure development efforts are in line with established priorities.
- Collaborate with the President to effectively manage a portfolio of major gift prospects to secure annual/leadership, major, principal, and deferred gifts in support of established fundraising goals.
- Work closely with MCFL’s president and/or other key MCFL staff and volunteers to jointly identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward key MCFL prospects.
- Directly manage the President’s portfolio of high-level prospects and provide staffing support to the President for this purpose, as well as manage his/her own portfolio of prospective donors.
- Support event management and execution, particularly related to donor engagement efforts and calls to action.
- Oversee development of MCFL planning documents and related materials for a comprehensive fundraising campaign, including case statements, brochures, presentations, and other promotional materials to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency with established priorities.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten years fundraising experience with proven record of success in soliciting major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations required.
- Experience in a nonprofit fundraising environment strongly preferred; campaign experience preferred.
Software Utilized:
Google Workspace and Microsoft Office products, internet, DonorSearch, and Little Green Light CRM.

Position: Associate Director of Programs

The Associate Director of Programs is responsible for the planning and execution of key organizational initiatives that encompass education, public policy, outreach, and events. Working in close collaboration with the President and staff, the Associate Director manages mission-critical programs that elevate the MCFL brand and enhance its visibility across the state. Day to day, the Associate Director’s efforts will advance the organization’s priorities, increase its membership, electoral influence, and, indirectly, result in a steady development revenue increase.
Job duties:

Program management: 50% – Manage and grow MCFL Action Teams and related projects (i.e., Safe Haven signage, Baby Boxes, fetal model event(s), organizing member information and building strong relationships with volunteers to deepen their organizational loyalty, satisfaction, and willingness to contribute; exercise grassroots leadership).

Event planning: 25% – Manage and increase participation in MCFL’s Young Adult Chapter; generate activity for interested members in areas outside Greater Boston, including Central and Western Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and the North Shore; serve as staff liaison for Chapter-led projects.

Develop content that helps constituents understand proposed legislation, its implications, and how they can act to support or oppose bills; promote and encourage participation in legislative hearings and other policy events; lobby state legislators and local officials, with or without constituents, and tell the stories of such endeavors through MCFL’s magazine and digital platforms.

Develop ideas, relationships, and strategies for increasing the effectiveness of MCFL programming, leveraging pro-life contacts across Massachusetts.

Collaborate with staff on various projects, including legislative research.

Keep accurate records of metrics, group activity, and leadership contact information in our CRM database systems.

Communicate and collaborate across the organization to achieve consistency in messaging and ensure the long-term growth and success of MCFL.

Skills:

Education: BA/BS required

Experience: Some experience volunteering within the pro-life movement; 2–5 years of successful project coordination and volunteer management experience

Computers: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with Google Workspace and CRM database systems preferred

General: Ability to prioritize assignments and exercise effective time management skills; must be comfortable in a remote setting and independent work environment while exercising initiative and self-confidence. Must have reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel frequently, though not more than 2 days per week, within the state.
