In 2023, Canada reported 15,343 euthanasia (MAiD) deaths — a 15.8% increase from the year before and 4.7% of all deaths nationwide.
Since legalization, at least 60,301 Canadians have died by euthanasia.
People with disabilities are overrepresented, making up 33.5% of terminal-condition cases and 58.3% of non-terminal cases. Loneliness, loss of independence, and feeling like a burden were among the top reasons given.
