Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 106, granting $90 million in state funding to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, an increase from the $60 million initially proposed.
The funding supplements $140 million previously approved by California lawmakers and comes in response to federal efforts to cut support for the nation’s largest abortion services provider.
During the signing, the governor's wife Jennifer Siebel Newsom criticized the media for ignoring what she called a “horrific war on women,” emphasizing the need to protect access to abortion services.
Pro-life advocates, including California Family Council, denounced the legislation as a taxpayer-funded bailout that undermines the value of human life and diverts resources amid rising costs of living and social challenges in the state.
