Boston parents charged after 5-week-old baby dies from drug exposure

Boston authorities have charged Gerard Winn, 52, and Raynell Reed, 31, with manslaughter in the death of their 5-week-old daughter.

The Suffolk DA’s office reported that fentanyl and cocaine were found in the infant’s blood, and the baby was severely malnourished at the time of her death.

The infant was born two months premature in December 2024 and reportedly never received medical care despite failing to gain weight. She died on January 9, 2025, weighing only 2.5 pounds. Toxicology confirmed exposure to illegal drugs, and prosecutors allege the parents used these substances in the infant’s presence.

Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden called the case “an incredibly tragic example of neglect and endangerment.” Both parents were held on $100,000 bail and are due back in court on Dec. 18.
