Josie Elena Rivas of Lago Vista, Texas, was diagnosed with spina bifida before birth. Her parents turned to Texas Children’s Hospital Austin, where specialists performed complex prenatal surgery to repair her spine while she was still in the womb.
The procedure was successful, and Josie spent 109 days in the neonatal intensive care unit with her parents by her side. Today, she is home, thriving, moving her legs, and receiving ongoing care through the hospital’s Spina Bifida Clinic.
