A Baby Safe Haven sign has been installed at Morton Hospital in Taunton by a Massachusetts Citizens for Life supporter.
The hospital, now part of the Brown University Health system, previously did not display Safe Haven signage. Signs were provided to staff and placed at emergency entrances to ensure visibility for individuals in crisis and to help promote awareness of legally designated Safe Haven locations.
Under Massachusetts law, Baby Safe Havens allow parents to safely surrender a newborn 7 days old or younger at designated locations, including hospital emergency rooms, police stations, and staffed fire stations, without fear of arrest or prosecution. The Department of Children and Families assumes custody immediately and places the child in state-approved care.
MCFL extends its gratitude to our supporter for his life-saving efforts in helping ensure Safe Haven information is clearly visible where it may be needed most. We also invite other supporters to help distribute Safe Haven signs in their own communities, including hospitals, fire stations, and police departments, to further expand awareness of this option statewide.
