Assisted suicide increasing in Switzerland, according to new report

Assisted suicide deaths carried out by the group Exit Switzerland rose significantly in 2025, according to newly released data.

The organization reported 1,421 assisted suicide deaths last year in the German- and Italian-speaking regions of Switzerland, a 15 percent increase from the 1,235 cases recorded in 2024.

More women than men used the group’s services, with 818 female deaths compared to 603 male deaths.

The report also showed a notable rise in cases involving people who were not terminally ill. About 32 percent of those who died had terminal cancer, while 23 percent were classified as having “polymorbidity,” meaning multiple health conditions rather than a single terminal illness. The number of such cases increased from 205 in 2024 to 326 in 2025.
