Another Planned Parenthood center in Florida is set to close, as the organization announces the shutdown of its Gainesville facility next month amid declining patient volume.
Planned Parenthood’s Gainesville location will permanently close on June 26, according to the organization. The center does not perform surgical abortions on site but provides abortion pill distribution, referrals for abortion procedures, and other related services.
Planned Parenthood said the decision reflects an effort to “align health centers with patient needs and changes in patient volume,” adding that telehealth services will continue to be available.
Local officials cited declining utilization as the primary reason for the closure, noting that the clinic had struggled to maintain operations in recent years. The shutdown follows another Planned Parenthood facility closure in Florida earlier this year.
Florida maintains a six-week abortion limit under state law, a policy that has significantly reduced abortion access across much of the state.
The Gainesville closure leaves 14 Planned Parenthood locations remaining in Florida.
