Actress Christina Applegate describes abortion trauma in new memoir

In her memoir You With the Sad Eyes, actress Christina Applegate revealed that she had an abortion in 1991 at age 19 while in an abusive relationship.

Drawing on diary entries from that time, Applegate described the experience as deeply painful, admitting she felt she was “killing her child.”

The memoir recounts how she struggled with the decision, balancing personal trauma and professional pressures, and later wrote a poem to the child she lost. Applegate also shares other difficult experiences in her life, including sexual abuse, her father’s abandonment, and her mother’s struggles with addiction.

Her account highlights the emotional impact of abortion, challenging the perception that it is a routine or consequence-free procedure.
