51 Senators urge FDA to suspend mail-order abortion drugs

Fifty-one U.S. Senators, led by Sen. Lindsey Graham, sent a letter to Secretary Robert Kennedy and Commissioner Robert Makary highlighting the dangers of mail-order abortion pills.

The Senators praised the agencies’ commitment to reviewing abortion pill safety but warned that current policies allowing mifepristone and misoprostol to be obtained without medical oversight endanger women and unborn children, enable abuse, and violate pro-life state laws.

The letter cites evidence that serious complications occur in more than 1 in 10 chemical abortions, far higher than reported, and notes that unrestricted access undermines states’ rights and has led to hospitalizations and deaths. Senators called for immediate action, including suspending new generic approvals, reinstating in-person dispensing requirements, and halting mail-order distribution while a comprehensive safety review is conducted.

The Senators concluded that decisive action is needed to protect women’s health, uphold states’ laws, and safeguard unborn life.
