Oct. 12, 2023 - Walpole, MA - Massachusetts Citizens for Life (MCFL), the largest and longest-serving right-to-life organization in New England, is proud to announce its upcoming 50th Anniversary Gala. This historic event, drawing advance registration of more than 500 advocates and leaders, will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in Newton, Massachusetts, and will feature the honorable Dr. Ben Carson as a special guest.
Founded in 1973, MCFL has been at the forefront of the critical quest to restore respect for every human life from conception until natural death, with a particular focus on the women of Massachusetts and their precious babies as the primary beneficiaries of their work.
Just as history looks back in disgust at the Dred Scott decision that declared slaves only partially human under the law, MCFL is committed to a future where the Roe v. Wade decision will be viewed with similar disdain. This mission has been invigorated, notably following the United States Supreme Court's landmark decision on June 24, 2022, which returned the issue of abortion to the states.
Myrna Maloney Flynn, President of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, shared her thoughts on this significant occasion: "The fact that a nonprofit organization, humbly begun in one man's living room a half century ago, continues with such strength today is in itself a reason to celebrate."
"Yet there is so much more that we commemorate this Saturday. Above all, we hope our 50th Anniversary Gala reminds each attendee that their fortitude throughout 50 years saved lives and ensured women's dignity. In addition, we will shine a spotlight on bravery as several special guests share their deeply personal stories of defending human life in the midst of tremendous pressure to deny its value," Maloney Flynn stated.
The Gala will be emceed by Alexis Walkenstein, a Framingham native and Emmy Award-winning TV journalist turned film producer and PR professional. Alexis has led media and marketing efforts for various family-friendly movies and projects, including Unplanned, the 2019 feature film of which she was a co-producer.
Dr. Ben Carson, a retired American neurosurgeon and former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will grace the occasion as the keynote speaker. Dr. Carson is renowned for his groundbreaking work in neurosurgery, including performing the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a fetus inside the womb and the first known separation of conjoined twins joined at the back of the head. He is the Founder and Chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute, dedicated to promoting the four founding principles of faith, liberty, community, and life. Dr. Carson's contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The Massachusetts Citizens for Life 50th Anniversary Gala promises to be an evening of reflection, celebration, and inspiration, honoring a decades-long commitment to the movement to protect and uphold the sanctity of every human life.
