Virginia governor orders criminal probe into school’s secret abortions for minors

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has directed the State Police to launch a criminal investigation into allegations that staff at Centreville High School arranged abortions for two underage students without notifying their parents, and used public funds to pay for them.

Reports allege that social worker Carolina Diaz took the students to abortion facilities, with principal Chad Lehman aware of the actions. One of the minors says she begged to keep her baby and fled the clinic to avoid the procedure.

Although Fairfax County Public Schools claims it only learned of the incidents last week, whistleblower testimony and documents suggest that the district has been aware of the issues since 2022. Former teacher Zenaida Perez says she repeatedly alerted school leaders, only to be ignored and silenced. Virginia law requires parental notification before a minor receives an abortion, making the alleged actions a direct violation.

Governor Youngkin called the allegations “deeply concerning” and promised a full investigation. Lieutenant Governor nominee John Reid labeled the case “government-sponsored abuse” if proven true.
