Member Reports: "I spoke with aides and gave testimony opposing ROE"

Posted on In The News by C.J. Williams · July 13, 2020 9:13 AM · 1 reaction

DOES YOUR CALL TO OPPOSE ROE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Yes, it does.

The legislative aides to the chair and vice chair told one of our members that the calls had been pouring in. "We count them. Every one."

But what if it's difficult to get on the phone? You may be working odd hours, have children at home, or just hate the phone and feel unable to communicate that way with a state representative.

Two members, a member from Fitchburg, a family physician, and another, wrote our community engagement director yesterday after both calling and emailing the State House.
"You can always call off hours and leave a thorough voicemail," said the first, which he had.
Dr. Rollo reported that he had sent in his testimony as well.
"You cannot imagine the value of your testimony to these legislators. They're listening to every word."
"Don't feel like you can't do it. Do it. These are the key points I used."

1- ROE puts women at additional risk since abortions beyond 24 weeks are no longer required to be done in the hospital.
2- ROE removes the requirement for infant resuscitation equipment to be present in the event that a baby is "accidentally" born alive.  This is passive infanticide.
3- ROE eliminates Judicial bypass for minors.  So not only does there continue to be no requirement for parental consent, there is not even a judicial bypass provision in the bill.  Therefore exploitation of minors including victims of rape and incest would obviously increase since they would have no respnsible adult protecting them.  This will provide cover for sex trafficing and other forms of abuse.
"I only got great feedback from the aides! It would be great for as many people as possible to send emails to the chairs and vice chairs of the committee."

Not everyone is comfortable speaking on the phone, even after a lot of practice. Myrna Maloney Flynn's easy to use phone script can help here.

Get up and go! Our members are standing alongside each other on this most critical of campaigns. Keep calling!

Lobby Your Legislator on Social Media

Posted on In The News by C.J. Williams · July 01, 2019 1:09 PM · 1 reaction

When you think of lobbying, you probably think of State House halls, formal letters, or official meetings scheduled in offices or quiet restaurants. But what you may not know is that nearly every one of your legislators now has an active presence on social media, and their Facebook and Twitter accounts are as valid and impactful a meeting ground as their offices.

In fact, sometimes, social media causes a greater impact than a formal letter these days, because on social media, one message may not just reach your representative or senator. One message may reach your entire district.

And that kind of reach is a reality every politician watches like a hawk.

Here are the easy steps to finding, reaching, and engaging your legislator online. Double your lobbying efforts by reaching out via social media, bring your fellow state citizens to the conversation, and raise awareness of the laws and proposed laws threatening or supporting human lives in Massachusetts.

1. Do you know who your representatives are? Who your senator is? If not, start here: Plug in Your Address and Receive Your Legislators' Full Contact Information (click here to search).

2. Do you have FaceBook? If so, take the names of your representatives to your FaceBook toolbar, and type them in.

It should look like this in your browser.

3. Do you have Twitter? If so, take the names of your senator or representatives and type them into the search bar on your Twitter feed.

If your senator or representative has an account, it should show up like this in your browser:

Click on the name in the search results, then select follow. Now, you can either tweet at them, or send them a direct message.

How to Support Local Pro-Life Action: Rose Drives

Posted on In The News by C.J. Williams · November 05, 2018 3:30 PM

The MCFL Rose Drive is an annual memorial and fundraising outreach that is easy, attractive, and adaptable. Our chapters and our members have been offering roses outside churches or during fairs or community events almost since our inception.

What, then, is a rose drive?

Rose Drives serve a dual purpose: as memorials for preborn people, and as fundraisers. Roses purchased to remember the children and their mothers victimized by legal abortion directly support MCFL’s educational programs, community outreach, lobbying, and more.

Many drives are held on Mother’s Day, or during October, Respect Life Month. Many members get permission from their pastor to offer roses after services -- this has been a highly successful, as well as easy, strategy.

As you plan your own Rose Drive for the upcoming year, the following steps may be helpful:
