A recent report shared by LifeNews from the Commission on end-of-life care shows that Quebec has the highest rate of medical assistance in dying (MAiD) in the world, accounting for 7.9 percent of all deaths in 2024 2025, with an increase of 9 percent over the previous year.
The report highlights major regional disparities, very short delays between requests and administration, and troubling cases of non-compliance. Notably, half of those who received MAiD cited feeling like a burden, and nearly a quarter cited loneliness.
The report also underscores a critical lack of reliable data on palliative care, making it difficult to assess whether Quebecers have access to high-quality end-of-life support. Advocates stress that while MAiD has grown rapidly, palliative care remains underfunded and inaccessible, particularly home-based services.
