Ohio doctor suspended for secretly giving abortion pill to woman he impregnated

The Ohio State Medical Board has suspended the license of Dr. Hassan-James Abbas, a surgical resident at the University of Toledo Medical Center, after determining his continued practice “presents a danger of immediate and serious harm.”

The board alleges Abbas secretly obtained and administered abortion-inducing drugs to a woman he impregnated, without her consent, and used his estranged wife’s personal information to order the medication.

The suspension follows allegations of assault, tampering with a 911 call, and multiple violations of Ohio law, including identity fraud and unlawful distribution of a dangerous drug.

Abbas is on administrative leave from UTMC, and the board will determine whether to permanently revoke his license.
