Massachusetts Citizens for Life joins our national affiliate, National Right to Life, in commending the Trump administration for taking decisive action to protect women from the dangers of the abortion pill mifepristone.
During a Senate hearing today, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. exposed troubling revelations about how the Biden administration handled safety data. In response to questioning from Senator James Lankford (R-OK), Kennedy testified that officials “twisted the data to bury one of the safety signals” surrounding mifepristone—an alarming admission that safety concerns were deliberately hidden.
NRLC President Carol Tobias called the acknowledgment “a stunning admission that confirms what we have long warned: the abortion industry and its allies—including those in the Biden administration—pushed chemical abortions at the expense of women’s health and safety.” She praised the Trump administration, Secretary Kennedy, and FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary for committing to transparency and accountability.
Mifepristone, the first drug in the two-step chemical abortion process, is designed to end the life of an unborn child. It has also been linked to serious health risks for women, including hemorrhage, infection, and the need for surgical follow-up. Recent studies confirm that emergency room visits have surged as the Biden administration dismantled commonsense safeguards, including the in-person dispensing requirement. Under Biden, mifepristone was made available through mail order and retail pharmacies, further endangering women’s safety while expanding abortion access.
“Women deserve honesty, not buried data and manipulated reports,” added Tobias. “The acknowledgment of suppressed safety data underscores the urgent need to restore, at a minimum, commonsense protections surrounding the use of mifepristone. We are grateful for the renewed focus on women’s safety under this administration.”
